London - According to a study in the Lancet Oncology, gum disease increases the risk of cancer.

In a study of nearly 50,000 patients, those with gum disease had a 14% higher risk of developing cancer.

The study confirmed that Gum disease raised the risk of lung cancer by 36% in smokers, and by 21% in non smokers.

Furthermore Periodontal Disease was found to increases the risk of kidney cancer by 49% and the risk of pancreatic cancer by 54%.
